Spider Infestations are Common
There are tens of thousands of spider species, most of which are harmless to humans. Spiders such as the common house spider may be beneficial as they help control other pests. Still, it’s no fun to share your home with an uninvited guest. Black Widow and Brown Recluse spiders are particularly dangerous to humans, and can cause serious health problems. Both of these spiders are found in the Southern United States.
How should I handle spiders?
The brown recluse spider is small, with a body that is roughly 10-15 millimeters in length. It can be found in the central and southern United States. It’s color is light tan, with darker brown shade on it’s back. It’s venom causes tissue death near the site of the bite. It is a shy spider and will usually only attack when threatened.
The Black Widow, another dangerous species that can be found throughout the United States, also has the most notable appearance. It is black, with a prominent red hourglass on it’s abdomen. This species is also not particularly aggressive, and will only attack when provoked.
